Ms Caroline Deen is a proud Kamilaroi woman and Researcher at the University of Sydney, affiliated with the Sydney School of Health Sciences and the University Department of Rural Health - Northern Rivers. She is completing her PhD at the POCHE Centre for Indigenous Research and the University Centre for Rural Health.

Her research focuses on:
- Public health nutrition and food security
- Addressing social and cultural determinants of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
- Developing culturally responsive measurement tools for food security
- Exploring intersections between climate change and Indigenous food systems
Caroline has received the HEAL Innovation Fund 2024 award ($20,000) and secured grants for her research on culturally responsive food security assessment. She collaborates with the HEAL Network, Sydney Environment Institute, Dietitians Australia, and Public Health Association Australia.
Her work critically examines limitations in existing food security measures like the USDA Household Food Security Measure (HFSM), advocating for frameworks that integrate Indigenous cultural practices including food sharing and access to traditional foods.
