Caroline Chung Simpson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Comparative History of Ideas (CHID) and English at the University of Washington, within the College of Arts & Sciences. She holds an MFA in poetry from the University of Houston and a PhD in American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on the cultural and political dimensions of race, memory, and representation, particularly through interdisciplinary forms such as creative non-fiction, visual narratives, and outsider art practices.
Her work interrogates postwar American cultural narratives, including the underacknowledged connections between Japanese American internment and broader Cold War policies. She advises CHID thesis students and teaches courses exploring critical theory, social justice, and the politics of representation. Her office is located in Padelford Hall A301, and she maintains regular office hours (MW 4:30–6pm).
