Caroline Brisson

Caroline Brisson is an Assistant Professor of Engineering Physics at the School of Theoretical and Applied Science (TAS) at Ramapo College of New Jersey, where she has been teaching since 2007. Her academic career spans theoretical and applied research in photonics and telecommunications engineering, with a focus on optical networking and semiconductor devices.

Dr. Brisson’s research interests center on Optics/Photonics, particularly Frequency Division Multiplexing techniques for optical Local Area Networks (LANs), Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network design, and Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs) for high-speed telecommunications systems like 40 Gb/s DWDM systems. Her work bridges theoretical exploration and practical implementation, contributing to advancements in optical signal processing.

Her notable scientific achievement includes a patent in 2004 for a method to suppress signal distortions in optical fibers, addressing critical challenges in nonlinear optics. She has also authored a chapter on semiconductor optical amplifiers in the Wiley & Sons Encyclopedia of Telecommunications, reflecting her expertise in the field.

Dr. Brisson is actively involved in professional societies, including the Optical Society of America (OSA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and Women in Engineering (IEEE WIE). She teaches courses spanning foundational physics and advanced topics such as Quantum Mechanics, Photonics, and Environmental Physics.
