Caroline Brekkan is an Acting Instructor of Swedish within the Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington, teaching Swedish language courses across multiple academic quarters including First Year Swedish (SWED 101-103) and Second-year Swedish (SWED 201) from 2023 through 2025.

Her research spans structural and pedagogical linguistics with emphasis on Scandinavian languages, covering phonetics, phonology, syntax, and second language acquisition. She integrates functional grammar frameworks with practical translation studies while maintaining focus on Icelandic and Swedish linguistic systems within broader Scandinavian Area Studies.
Based in office RAI 305 T with appointment-based office hours, she actively contributes to the Scandinavian Studies program which offers instruction in eight Nordic and Baltic languages including Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish.
