Professor Carolina Rito is Professor of Creative Practice Research at Coventry University's Research Centre for Arts, Memory and Communities. She holds a PhD in Curatorial/Knowledge from Goldsmiths, University of London and serves as Executive Board Member of the Midlands Higher Education & Culture Forum and Research Fellow at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Dr. Rito previously led Public Programmes and Research at Nottingham Contemporary.
Her research examines knowledge production at the intersection of curatorial practice and contested historical narratives, with focus areas including decolonial practices, postcolonial studies, exhibition histories, and contemporary visual cultures. She lectures internationally across Europe, South America, and the Middle East.
Recent publications explore curatorial research methodologies, British Black artists' representation, Portuguese colonial legacies in museums, and exhibition politics. Her work has been recognized with a Fulbright Fellowship in 2023.
