Carolina Arango-Vargas

Carolina Arango-Vargas, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in the Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality Studies within the College of Education and Human Development. She is also affiliated with the Interdisciplinary School for Engagement in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA). A feminist anthropologist, her research explores political agency, violence, and feminist activism, particularly among women's organizations in Colombia, with broader interests in Latin America and the Global South.

Research Interests
Dr. Arango-Vargas specializes in feminist anthropology, focusing on grassroots feminist movements in Colombia, violence studies, and transnational feminist frameworks. Her work engages with decolonial methodologies and community-university partnerships to address racial justice and educational equity.

Advising and Collaborative Initiatives
She co-created place-based, decolonial pedagogies through projects like the Peoples’ Academy, Ethnic Studies Educator Academy, and Decolonizing Education workshops. Her current work includes a book manuscript in progress.
