Carolin Schurr is an Associate Professor of Social and Cultural Geographies at the University of Bern, leading the Social and Cultural Geography research group. She holds a PhD in Gender Studies and Human Geography from the University of Bern (2008–2012) and has held postdoctoral positions at institutions such as the University of Zurich and King’s College London. Her research focuses on reproductive geopolitics, exploring how access to reproductive technologies stratifies global bodies and lives. Key awards include the Ashby Prize (2018) and the Branco Weiss Fellowship (2013–2018).
Education includes a BA/MA in Geography, Sociology, and Latin American Studies from the University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and a DAAD exchange at the Pontifica Universidad Católica del Ecuador. She has taught extensively across institutions, including the University of St. Gallen and Zurich, covering topics like transcultural studies, feminist geographies, and political change.
Her work combines feminist methodologies with studies of affect, postcolonialism, and new materialism. Current research projects include the Swiss National Science Foundation-funded 'Reproductive Geopolitics' (2021–2025), examining marginalized women’s experiences in Switzerland, Mexico, and Spain. She is also affiliated with journals like Gender, Place & Culture and networks such as the DFG's 'Feministische Geographien des New Materialism'.
Publications span over 60 entries, with recent work analyzing reproductive justice, multisensory research, and the global bioeconomy. She advocates for policy-informed research, particularly on transnational reproductive markets and epigenetic geographies in agriculture.
