Dr. Carolin Meister (b. 1969) is a Professor of Art History at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe since 2009. She served as Prorektorin (Vice President) of the academy from 2017 to 2023. Her research spans tactile experiences in art, intermediality, and intersections of art and philosophy.
Education includes studies in Art History, Comparative Literature, Romance Studies, and Philosophy in Berlin and Paris, culminating in a 2003 doctorate from Freie Universität Berlin. Her editorial work includes co-editing volumes on themes like 'Berührung' (Touch) and 'Ghostarbeiter' (Ghost Workers), focusing on technical and occult media.
Research interests emphasize tactile perception in art, optical theories in historical contexts, and the interplay between film, drawing, and aesthetics. Her publications analyze works by artists such as Marcel Broodthaers, Francis Bacon, and Jean-Siméon Chardin, exploring paradoxes, media archaeology, and sensory experiences.
