Carolin Bohlmann is a Professor at the Institute for Conservation and Restoration of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, specializing in the materiality and conservation of modern and contemporary art. Her research spans interdisciplinary intersections of art history, media theory, and conservation science, with a focus on light concepts in painting, Joseph Beuys’ installations, and time-based media preservation.
- Current projects: BEST AVAILABLE COPY (interdisciplinary replication studies), Conceptual Art Materiality, and Preserving Ephemeral Processes
- Teaching: Courses in Conservation-Restoration and seminars on material theory for doctoral students
She leads the Department of Conservation-Restoration of Modern and Contemporary Art, collaborates with institutions like the Hamburger Bahnhof, and has held visiting roles at TU Berlin, HTW Berlin, and Humboldt University. Recent publications analyze material degradation, conservation ethics, and media-specific challenges in art preservation.
