Carole Southall is a Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University with 20 years of professional experience as a social worker in adult services, including roles as an Approved Social Worker under the Mental Health Act 1983 and a team manager in Community Mental Health Services. She currently serves as Programme Leader for Post Qualifying Social Work and teaches on the BSc, MA Social Work Programmes, AMHP Programme, and Post Qualifying Social Work courses, including BIA training under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
Her research focuses on mental health, mental capacity, adult safeguarding, and domestic abuse in older populations. Key publications address challenges in identifying domestic abuse among the elderly, homecare policy implementation, and the interplay between personalisation policy and social work practice.
