Professor Carola Boehm is a distinguished academic at Staffordshire University, affiliated with the Digital, Tech, Innovation & Business department. She holds a Senior Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy and has contributed to over £4 million in research and enterprise projects across EPSRC, EU, and other funding bodies. Her career spans roles at Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Glasgow, and the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Netherlands.
Boehm earned degrees in Electrical Engineering (BSc) and Music (BA/MA) with Computer Science as a minor. Her research expertise bridges Music Technology, Arts-Academia Interconnectedness, and Interdisciplinary Creativity in Higher Education. She has delivered her 'Creating Creative Processes' workshop globally over 50 times.
Her recent work focuses on Culture 3.0 frameworks, decolonial futures in academia, and the role of arts in civic universities. Key publications include Arts and Academia: The Role of the Arts in Civic Universities (2022) and Coloniality and Whiteness in the Academy (2023). She has held editorial roles for journals like Philosophy and Theory in Higher Education and sits on EU and UK research funding panels.
Boehm’s awards include a 1998 Top Paper Award from AACE for her work on digital creativity tools. She advises on over a dozen international academic programs, including roles at Middlesex University, Dundalk Institute of Technology, and the University of South Wales.
Her current projects include the DICO Toolkit for Digital Career Stories and collaborations on multiprofessional work in arts and social care. She advocates for creative universities as antidotes to toxic political cultures and explores identity journeys in academic activism.
