Carol Howard is an Associate Provost and Professor at Warren Wilson College, where she teaches courses in English and American literature and culture. With a background in Enlightenment and Romantic periods, she also instructs classes in Classical and Modern Theatre and leads the first-year seminar “Gardens and the Literary Imagination.”
- Education: B.A. in Literature from Purchase College, SUNY; M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in English from Columbia University.
Research Interests: Her scholarly work centers on Women's Literary History, Early Women's Biography, and Garden Literature, with a notable contribution as the author of the introduction and notes to the Barnes and Noble Classics edition of Pride and Prejudice. She explores intersections between literature, cultural history, and environmental imagination through her column “The Literary Gardener” in The Laurel magazine.
Administrative Expertise: As Associate Provost, she focuses on faculty and curriculum development, student success and retention, and institutional effectiveness. Her dual role as both educator and administrator highlights her commitment to liberal arts education.
