She holds additional roles as a Lecturer in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and has served as Merrimack College’s Provost (2014–2016). Her research focuses on the psychobiology and pharmacotherapy of mood disorders, particularly seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and circadian rhythms. She has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles and authored a seminal textbook on psychiatric nursing.
Education:
- Ph.D., Nursing, Boston College
- B.S.N., Nursing, University of Rochester
Research Interests:
Glod’s work explores the intersection of circadian rhythms, psychiatric medications, and light therapy. She has conducted clinical trials on SAD treatments and investigated the neurobiological impacts of early childhood trauma. Her research emphasizes translational applications for clinical practice and public health.
Recent Research Trends:
Her articles from 2016 onward highlight advancements in light therapy protocols and the efficacy of short-wavelength light for SAD. Earlier work (1990s–2000s) focused on suicidal behavior in SSRI-treated patients, pediatric mood disorders, and the physiological effects of childhood abuse.
Awards and Recognition:
- Living Legend Awards from multiple psychiatric nursing organizations (2012, 2015)
- Fellow, American Academy of Nursing (2002)
- Over 15 major research awards from NIH, NARSAD, and academic foundations
Grants & Advising:
Principal investigator on NIH-funded studies (e.g., MRI/magnetic resonance spectroscopy of pediatric affective disorders) and industry partnerships (e.g., Philips Company light therapy trials). Her mentorship spans academic leadership roles at Northeastern University, Salem State University, and Merrimack College.
Labs and Collaborations:
Active collaborations with Harvard Medical School and Partners HealthCare. Her work integrates clinical nursing practice with neurobiological research, emphasizing translational outcomes for patient care.
