Carol Bunch Davis is an Associate Professor Emerita in the Department of Liberal Studies at Texas A&M University at Galveston. Her research focuses on African American literature, cultural memory, and the civil rights movement. She holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Southern California (2007), an M.A. in English from the University of Houston-Clear Lake (1998), and a B.A. in Communication from Trinity University (1990).
Her work examines intersections of race, identity, and cultural representation in dramatic works. Notable publications include Prefiguring Postblackness: Cultural Memory, Drama and the African American Freedom Struggle of the 1960s (2017) and articles analyzing plays like Dutchman and The Great White Hope. Her research often bridges historical analysis with contemporary cultural discourse.
Dr. Davis has received prestigious awards including the Texas A&M Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award (2018) and was a finalist for the Benjamin Hooks National Book Award (2016). She has held grants from institutions like Tulane University’s New Orleans Center for the Gulf South and the Texas A&M System.
Her teaching emphasizes student self-discovery through literary engagement, as seen in courses like Museums and the Construction of Identities and Rhetoric & Composition. She has also participated in leadership development programs, including the TAMU Southeastern Conference Academic Leadership Development Program (SEC ALDP).
