Professor Carmen Huertas-Noble is a Tenured Professor of Law and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Programs at CUNY School of Law. She founded the Community & Economic Development Clinic (CEDC), nationally recognized for its leadership in advancing worker-owned cooperatives and community economic development. Her work focuses on promoting alternative ownership models such as worker cooperatives and community land trusts through legal frameworks and policy advocacy.

Research & Expertise: Professor Huertas-Noble’s scholarship emphasizes client-centered lawyering for cooperatives and the role of transactional legal support in empowering marginalized communities. Her projects include co-founding COLORS restaurant and ReBuilders Source, and partnering with Mondragon to develop union-coop hybrid models.

- 2020 Cooperative Hall of Fame (highest honor in the cooperative community)
Clinic & Partnerships: The CEDC has secured NYC’s largest municipal investment in worker cooperatives (2015) and collaborates with organizations like 1 Worker 1 Vote and the American Sustainable Business Council. CEDC alumni lead cooperative legal initiatives nationwide.
