Carmel Saad is a Professor of Psychology at Westmont College, serving as the Inaugural Director of the Carol Houston Center for Justice, Reconciliation, and Diversity and Chief Diversity Officer. Her research focuses on bicultural identity integration, cultural influences on emotion/creativity, and strategies to mitigate implicit bias. She consults with law enforcement, educational institutions, healthcare, and community organizations to address bias impacts.
Dr. Saad earned her Ph.D. in Social and Personality Psychology from the University of California, Davis (2012). Her work emphasizes evidence-based frameworks to combat implicit bias in real-world settings. Notable collaborations include the Santa Barbara Police Department, Santa Barbara Unified School District, and Cottage Hospital.
She organizes the annual Lead Where You Stand Westmont Conference on Implicit Bias, fostering dialogue on justice and equity. Her expertise bridges academia and community action, promoting inclusive environments through research and outreach.
