Dr. Carman Turkelson is a Professor of Nursing and Director of the Center for Simulation and Clinical Innovation at the University of Michigan-Flint's School of Nursing. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science in Nursing Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Michigan State University.
Her research focuses on:
- Simulation-based experiences (SBE) for interprofessional education and patient safety
- Cultural competence, humility, and empathy development in healthcare
- Innovative pedagogical approaches in nursing education
- Clinical communication and teamwork enhancement
She has secured over $6.4M in research funding, including HRSA grants for sexual assault nurse examiner training and NSF support for home health technology. Her scholarly contributions emphasize simulation design, cultural awareness, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
