Carlyn Dobson is a Reader in Economics at the University of Hull, affiliated with the Hull University Business School within the Faculty of Business, Law and Politics. Her research focuses on Development Economics, Macroeconomics, and the Informal Economy. She holds a BSc, MSc, and PhD/DPhil in relevant fields.
Her academic career spans over three decades, with prior appointments at Newcastle University, Queen's University Belfast, and the University of Otago. Her research interests include income inequality, economic convergence, corruption dynamics, and remittance impacts in Latin America and emerging economies.
Key research trends in her publications include analyzing the informal sector's role in savings and economic growth, exploring income convergence across regions (especially Latin America and Africa), and investigating the interplay between corruption and inequality. Methodologically, she employs econometric techniques like gravity models and unit root tests.
