Carly Cook is an Associate Professor and ARC Future Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences at Monash University. She specializes in conservation biology and evidence-based decision-making, focusing on integrating scientific evidence into environmental management. Her work emphasizes decision support tools, knowledge transfer systems, and the design of effective conservation strategies. Cook is a founding member of the Centre for Evidence Informed Policy and Practice, advocating for evidence-based approaches in conservation and policy.
She holds roles such as Member of the Expert Assessment Group for the Green List of Protected Areas with the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas. Her research spans topics like protected area governance, invasive species management, and the evolutionary potential of species under climate change. Key awards include the Faculty of Science Research Impact Award (2019).
Recent projects include developing management thresholds for Australian Marine Parks and enhancing biodiversity conservation through interdisciplinary approaches. Cook’s work frequently addresses global biodiversity targets (e.g., '30x30') and the role of community engagement in conservation practices.
