Carlotta Giannelli is an Associate Professor at the University of Florence, within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (DIMAI) and the Florence Center for Data Science (FDS). She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Applications (2010) and a Laurea in Computer Science (2006), both from the University of Florence. Her research focuses on computational geometry, isogeometric analysis, and spline approximation, with applications in numerical methods and geometric modeling.
Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science and Applications (2010), University of Florence; Laurea in Computer Science (2006), University of Florence.
Research Interests: Giannelli specializes in adaptive isogeometric methods, hierarchical splines, and rotation-minimizing frames. She has contributed to advancements in parameterization for computational domains, fault detection in scattered data, and applications in additive manufacturing. Her work bridges theoretical foundations with industrial applications, such as turbine blade design and structural biology analysis.
Publications: Giannelli has authored numerous articles on topics like hierarchical B-splines, THB-splines, and Pythagorean-hodograph curves. Her recent work emphasizes adaptive refinement strategies and numerical integration techniques.
- Scientific Awards: Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship (2011–2013), Marie Curie Actions (2013), Marie Curie Initial Training Network (2010).
- Teaching: Courses include Numerical Methods for Graphics (Master's level) and Computational Numerical Methods (Undergraduate/PhD levels).
- Grants: PI of RTD-UNIFI (2019–2020) and DREAMS (2014–2018), funded by MIUR. Co-organizer of conferences like SIAM GD 2023 and GMP 2020.
Labs/Teams: Active in DIMAI and the Florence Center for Data Science, collaborating on projects like SUNRISE and parameterization for isogeometric analysis.
