Carlos Orestes Martin Medina

Carlos Orestes Martin Medina is a Professor of Biomass and Bioresources at the University of Inland Norway (INN) and Visiting Professor at Umeå University (Sweden). His research focuses on sustainable biomass utilization, including biofuels, biorefineries, lignocellulose pretreatment, and agricultural waste valorization. He leads multinational projects such as MUSA (Mushroom for Sustainable Agriculture) and fungal bioconversion initiatives.

Medina holds an MSc in Wood Chemical Technology from Leningrad Forest Technical Academy and a PhD in Technical Sciences from the University of Matanzas (Cuba), with postdoctoral training at Risø DTU (Denmark) and Karlsruhe University (Sweden). His career spans institutions in Cuba, Sweden, Germany, and Norway.

Research interests emphasize:

• Biomass fractionation and bioresource optimization
• Lignocellulosic biofuel production pathways
• Fungal and microbial bioprocessing for waste valorization
• Sustainable agriculture via circular economy models

His recent publications (2022–2025) demonstrate consistent focus on enzymatic hydrolysis, spent substrate valorization, and integrated biorefineries. Trends include scalable biomass conversion techniques and interdisciplinary approaches combining mycology, microbiology, and green chemistry.
