Carlos Herrera

Carlos Herrera is a Research Professor at the Estación Biológica de Doñana, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Sevilla, Spain. He has been a member of the Academy of Europe since 1995 and has contributed extensively to the fields of ecology and evolutionary biology.

• Education: Graduated with awards from the University of Sevilla (1974) and received his doctoral degree there (1978).

His research focuses on:

• Ecological genetics and epigenetics of flower yeasts
• Plant mating systems and reproductive biology
• Evolutionary ecology of plant-animal interactions

Herrera has received numerous accolades, including the Ernst Haeckel Prize (2017), the Spanish National Research Award 'Alejandro Malaspina' (2001), and multiple honorary memberships in professional societies.
