Carlos Campos

Carlos Campos is an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University, conducting core research at the HEI-Lab - Digital Human-Environment Interaction Lab while collaborating with the Center for Rehabilitation Research (School of Health, Polytechnic Institute of Porto). His work bridges experimental neuroscience, psychopathology, and clinical applications.

His work integrates cardiac, respiratory, and gastric modalities with behavioral and neurophysiological methods to explore theoretical models like interoceptive predictive processing. Current projects include the FCT-funded Interoceptively Expecting study on interoception during pregnancy and the BIAL Foundation's Empathic Heart project on empathy-interoception neurophysiology.

His publication trends reveal a strong focus on interoception's role in psychopathology (psychopathy, anxiety, depression), perinatal neuroscience, and neurorehabilitation techniques. Recent work employs EEG, heartbeat-evoked potentials, and virtual reality to investigate neural signatures across pregnancy, dementia, and social cognition.
