Carlos Aguasaco is a Professor of Latin American Cultural Studies and Chair in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at City College of the City University of New York (CUNY). He also serves as the Director of the Department and coordinates major cultural initiatives such as the Americas Film Festival and the Americas Poetry Festival of New York. Additionally, he has been a columnist for Newsweek En Español since 2021.
His research focuses on contemporary poetry, cultural studies, Latin American popular culture, and transatlantic discourses. He has published award-winning bilingual poetry collections, including The New York City Subway Poems (2020) and Cardinal in My Window with a Mask on Its Beak (2022), the latter earning the Ambroggio Prize—the only national award for authors whose first language is Spanish.
He is the founder and editor-in-chief of Artepoética Press and has edited 13 literary anthologies. His work bridges literary analysis, cultural critique, and transnational identity, with a focus on residual ideologies from the Spanish Golden Age and modern urban narratives.
