Carlos A. Casanova is a Lecturer at the University of Florida, affiliated with the Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law (PPEL) program and the Great Books and Ideas (GBI) curriculum. He holds a law degree from Catholic University Andrés Bello (1988) and a PhD in philosophy from the University of Navarre, Spain (1995). Previously, he served as a professor at the School of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, an attorney in Venezuela, and a visiting scholar at Boston University and the Jacques Maritain Center (University of Notre Dame).
His research focuses on political and social philosophy, ethics, metaphysics, and classical Greek philosophy. He has authored nine books, including Practical Truth. In Defense of Classical Ethics and Rationality and Justice, and is currently working on manuscripts for CUA Press and a paper on Christianity and freedom of religion. His projects also explore the connection between Marxism and hope.
Casanova teaches courses such as (Un)Common Reads: Socrates’ Death and contributes to interdisciplinary programs like the Robert M. Beren Program on Jewish Classical Education.
