Carlo Ratti is a Professor of Urban Technologies and Director of the MIT Senseable City Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He holds the Rudolf Diesel Industry Fellowship (2015) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS), hosted by Thomas Auer. His work bridges academic research, innovative design, and entrepreneurship, focusing on intelligent systems and the convergence of natural and artificial worlds. Ratti is renowned for his contributions to urban planning, smart cities, and digital mapping, as exemplified by his role as curator of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia (2025). He co-authored Atlas of the Senseable City, exploring how digital technologies reshape urban life.
His projects, such as the Sella Group Open Innovation Center in Turin, reimagine workspaces as dynamic 'piazzas' fostering collaboration. He leads the Senseable City Lab, advancing research on urban dynamics and technology. Ratti’s interdisciplinary approach integrates architecture, engineering, and data science to address sustainability and innovation challenges.
