Carlo Comanducci

Dr. Carlo Comanducci is a Lecturer at Vistula University's Faculty of Philology and Journalism since 2017, specializing in film studies and critical theory. He holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham and has conducted research in France and Hungary. His teaching focuses on film theory, critical theory, and postcolonial studies, while his research explores gesture theory, biopolitics, and anarchist thought in cinema and literature. He is currently working on a book analyzing Giorgio Agamben's philosophy and Yorgos Lanthimos' cinema. His work bridges film analysis with broader cultural and political discourses.

Dr. Comanducci’s educational background includes studies in Italian Literature at the University of Genoa, a Master’s in Film Studies from England, and a PhD in Philology from Birmingham. His interdisciplinary research intersects film studies with psychoanalysis, queer theory, and postcolonial studies, emphasizing embodied cinematic experiences and the politics of representation.

His research interests span film theory (spectatorship, psychoanalytic approaches), critical theory (Foucault, Butler), and cultural studies (precariat cinema, memory technologies). Recent publications include Spectatorship and Film Theory: The Wayward Spectator (2018) and co-edited The Matter of Telling (2018). He supervises third-year BA students and engages in projects exploring gesture’s role in biopolitical frameworks and cinematic narratives.

Dr. Comanducci’s work critiques dominant narratives through a focus on marginalized perspectives, blending philosophical rigor with close film analysis. His current book project examines gesture’s intersection with anarchist thought, cinema, and critical theory, reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship.
