Carla Teixeira

Carla Teixeira is a Research Fellow at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), currently working in the Pastrana Research Group since 2024. She initially joined INL's Food Quality & Safety (FQ&S) group in May 2023, contributing to the Horizon Europe TITAN project (Grant Agreement: 101060739) focused on food system transparency solutions.

Her educational background includes:

• BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Minho (Portugal), completed with an exchange semester at Robert Gordon University (UK)
• Master’s in Food Science & Technology from the University of Porto (co-tutored with the University of Minho)

Carla's research centers on microfluidic device development for food safety applications, including rapid detection of olive oil varieties and allergenic ingredients through micro Total Analysis Systems (µTAS). Her work bridges nanotechnology and biosensor engineering to create portable analytical solutions for agricultural and food quality control.

Her publication record demonstrates a clear trajectory in miniaturized DNA analysis systems, particularly for plant-based food authentication like grapevine and olive oil testing, reflecting applied research in agricultural biotechnology and food safety diagnostics.

Carla is actively engaged in the Horizon Europe TITAN project, which develops transparency-focused food safety technologies. Her contributions include designing on-site detection systems for food authenticity verification and allergen screening.

She operates within INL's Pastrana Research Group, a specialized unit advancing nanotechnology applications for food and health security through microfluidic and sensor development.
