Carla Silva is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Lisbon, specializing in Clinical and Health Psychology. She teaches core disciplines including Processes and Methods of Change, Case Studies in Children and Adolescents Psychotherapy, and Child/Adult Psychological Assessment, while serving as a Credit Commission Member.
Her research centers on self-identity development and authenticity across the lifespan, with emphasis on parenting practices, adverse family experiences, and relational dynamics in residential care settings. Current investigations examine how youth-caregiver relationships mediate organizational context effects on psychosocial adjustment, integrating both typical and high-risk developmental contexts through longitudinal and cross-sectional designs.
Analysis of her 2020-2024 publications reveals consistent focus on residential care systems, maltreatment outcomes, and self-representation mechanisms, frequently employing moderated mediation models to dissect individual and contextual variables. Her work bridges clinical practice with developmental theory, particularly regarding interparental conflict and caregiver relationship quality.
Dr. Silva actively supervises master's and doctoral dissertations in Clinical Psychology and contributes to major research initiatives including the EU-funded ISOTIS project (H2020-SC6-REV-INEQUAL-2016) addressing educational inequalities, alongside nationally funded studies on social images in residential care (PTDC/CED-EDG/30373/2017) and self-knowledge development (UIDP/03125/2020).
She is affiliated with the Research Centre for Psychology (CICPSI) at the University of Lisbon and serves as ad hoc reviewer for leading journals including Journal of Clinical Psychology, Child Psychiatry & Human Development, and Journal of Family Issues, demonstrating active engagement in the clinical psychology scholarly community.
