Carla Mazzarelli

Carla Mazzarelli is an Adjunct Professor at the Academy of Architecture and a Lecturer in the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). She holds a PhD in History and Conservation of Art and Architecture from the University of Rome 3 (2005) and has held post-doctoral positions including a role as professore ex cattedra in Art Criticism at the University of Calabria (2007-2009). Her research focuses on the classical tradition in art (17th-19th centuries), the role of copies and reproducibility in early modern art, and the evolution of artistic spaces like ateliers and museums.

Her work bridges art history, museology, and conservation theory. Notable publications include studies on artistic reproduction practices, transnational art circulation, and the historiography of restoration. She has received grants from prestigious institutions like the Paul Mellon Centre and achieved Italian national qualification as Associate Professor (2018).

Mazzarelli teaches modern art history at the Istituto di Studi Italiani (ISI) and contributes to interdisciplinary research on topics like urban iconography, artist correspondence, and the cultural role of museums. She is affiliated with the Institute for the History and Theory of Art and Architecture (ISA) at USI.
