Carl Still is the current President and former Dean of St. Thomas More College (STM), affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan. He holds an Associate Professor rank in the Department of Philosophy at STM. His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Medieval Studies (Philosophy) from the University of Toronto (1999), an M.S.L. in Medieval Studies (Theology) from the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies (1993), and a B.A. in History from the University of South Carolina (1988).
Dr. Still’s research focuses on medieval philosophy, particularly Thomas Aquinas, with interests in epistemology, ethics, and theology. He has published extensively on Aquinas’s theories of self-knowledge, moral philosophy, and theology. His work bridges medieval intellectual history with contemporary philosophical debates, emphasizing the relevance of historical texts to modern thought.
His articles and book chapters explore themes such as conscience, moral failure, and the nature of knowledge in pre-modern philosophy. He has received notable awards, including the Phi Beta Kappa honor society membership and the Carolina Scholars Award. His administrative roles include leading STM as Dean and now President, overseeing academic programs and institutional strategy.
Dr. Still has supervised graduate students and contributed to interdisciplinary initiatives, including the Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Studies program. His teaching spans medieval philosophy, philosophy of religion, and ethics, reflecting his commitment to integrating historical and theological perspectives.
