Carl Skelton is a Researcher at the Department of Informatics, Bremen City University of Applied Sciences, and Director of the Gotham Innovation Greenhouse in New York. He leads the Centre for City Ecologies in Toronto, focusing on participatory tools for urban governance. His work involves developing platforms like Betaville, collaborating with institutions such as the City of Los Angeles Engineering Department and the Canada Council for the Arts. He holds a Dr.-Ing. and has been recognized with the Jane Jacobs Medal for Technology and Innovation. His research explores systemic design, economic foresight, and pre-competitive innovation.
Education: Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.)
Research Interests: Urban design, participatory platforms, systemic design theory, and economic futures. He emphasizes ethics and social justice in design, leveraging interdisciplinary approaches to address complex socio-technical challenges. Recent work includes the 'Economic Futures for Ontario 2032' foresight project and collaborations with the Systemic Design Association.
