Carl F. Pieper is Professor of Biostatistics & Bioinformatics in the Division of Biostatistics at Duke University, with a primary appointment at 1513 Busse Building, Durham, NC 27710. A Columbia-trained DrPH (1990), he has steadily advanced from Assistant Research Professor to full Professor at Duke, focusing on advanced statistical methods for medical research.
Research Interests:
- Design of Medical Experiments: reliability/generalizability models, powering longitudinal trials with multiple outcomes and missing data.
- Analysis of Repeated Measures & Longitudinal Data: hierarchical linear & mixed models for simultaneous estimation of multivariate trajectories.
- Substantive Domains: gerontology, geriatrics, psychiatry, and multivariate repeated measures.
Across his 2025 publications, Pieper’s work converges on aging-related outcomes—functional decline, polypharmacy, multimorbidity trajectories, metabolic pathways, and psycho-social determinants—leveraging large cohorts (CARDIA, CALERIE, SWET-RA, NHANES-based samples) and employing sophisticated longitudinal modeling to inform clinical decision-making in older adults.
