Carl-Eric Wilen is a Professor at the Laboratory of Molecular Science and Engineering, part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Åbo Akademi University. His research focuses on sustainable materials, flame retardant polymers, nanomedicine, and biomedical engineering. He leads and contributes to several high-impact projects, including the MADNESS Centre of Excellence for combating antimicrobial resistance and the Printed Intelligence Infrastructure initiative. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in sustainable materials and environmental engineering.
Wilen’s research spans flame retardant materials, drug delivery systems, and biomedical applications. Notable projects include developing nanoemulsion-based therapies for fungal infections and optimizing wastewater treatment systems using polymer science. He has collaborated internationally and holds editorial roles in fire retardancy and materials science domains.
He has authored over 77 publications, including studies on polymer chemistry, fire safety, and biomedical materials. His recent work emphasizes sustainable solutions, such as eco-friendly flame retardants and biodegradable drug carriers.
