Carl Bonham serves as Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Hawaii and Executive Director of UHERO (University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization). A founding member of UHERO since 1997, his research focuses on Hawaii's economy, tourism economics, macroeconomics, and applied econometrics with emphasis on mixed-frequency forecasting models.
Dr. Bonham holds a PhD in Economics from University of Texas at Austin and an MA in Economics from Tulane University. His current research examines nowcasting techniques for economic forecasting systems, with recent publications addressing COVID-19 economic impacts and renewable energy policy analysis.
His research spans econometric methodology development and applied policy analysis, particularly focusing on Pacific region economies. Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on time-series econometrics, tourism economics, and Hawaii-specific economic challenges.
Dr. Bonham has served on key economic advisory bodies including Hawaii's Council on Revenues since 1996, COVID-19 Economic Preparedness Committee (2020-21), and Governor's Build Beyond Barriers Working Group (2023-24). He also serves on the board of Child and Family Services.
