Carl Alwmark is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geology at Lund University, Sweden. His research focuses on impact cratering and planetary geology, aiming to understand solar system evolution and Earth's geological history. Key interests include radiometric dating of impact structures, shock metamorphic analysis, and cosmic delivery mechanisms of meteorites.
He leads projects funded by institutions like the Swedish Research Council and has supervised doctoral students in studies of differentiated asteroids and impact chronology. Notable research includes identifying the Cryogenian impact structure in northern Sweden and developing non-destructive tomography techniques for planetary geosciences.
Alwmark manages advanced infrastructure like the Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (EDS/EBSD) and collaborates internationally. His work bridges field geology with analytical techniques, contributing to understanding impact processes and Earth's extraterrestrial interactions.
