Dr. Carel Dieperink is an active Assistant Professor in Environmental Governance at Utrecht University's Faculty of Geosciences, specifically within the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development. He holds office in the Vening Meinesz Building at Princetonlaan 8a, Room 7.34, Utrecht.
His expertise spans multiple critical areas of water and environmental management including Water Governance, International Water Management, Water Quality, Flood Risk Management, Drought, Climate Change, and Science-Policy Interfaces. His research particularly focuses on multilevel water governance, examining how national and international institutions interact on water issues.
Dieperink has been instrumental in several major research projects including POWER (Political and Social Awareness of Water Environmental Challenges), Rise and Fall (strategies for the subsiding and urbanizing Mekong Delta in Vietnam), and STAR-FLOOD (Strengthening And Redesigning European FLOOD risk practices). His work demonstrates consistent engagement with both European Union policies and international water governance frameworks.
He maintains active engagement with media and policy communities, with numerous interviews and public contributions from 2019 through 2023 on topics ranging from drought governance to water transition in the Netherlands and international water management challenges.
Dr. Dieperink teaches in the Bachelor Program Global Sustainability Science and Master Programs Sustainable Development and Water Science and Management, sharing his extensive knowledge on environmental policy analysis, evaluation, and international environmental governance.
