Dr. Cara Wang is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Her research focuses on transportation systems, with emphasis on data analytics, travel behavior, and spatial interdependence between land use, freight, energy, and the environment.
Education:
- Bachelor's and Master's in Civil Engineering from Tsinghua University
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin
Dr. Wang's research spans transportation data acquisition, spatial econometrics, decision behavior modeling, and sustainable delivery systems. She has pioneered studies on pandemic-driven shifts in consumer behavior, freight-efficient land use planning, and the environmental impact of emerging delivery technologies.
Her recent peer-reviewed publications highlight trends in home delivery adoption, eco-transfer systems, and behavioral analysis of freight carriers. These works integrate spatial statistics, sustainability metrics, and behavioral modeling to address urban logistics challenges.
Scientific Awards:
- Benjamin H. Stevens Graduate Fellowship in Regional Science
- Pikarsky Prize for Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation
- Franz Edelman Award Finalist by INFORMS
Dr. Wang has served as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator for projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), and National Cooperative Freight Research Program (NCFRP), among other agencies.
Affiliations:
- Center for Infrastructure, Transportation and the Environment (CITE)
- Center for Materials, Devices, and Integrated Systems (CMDIS)
- Former President, Chinese Overseas Transportation Association (COTA)
