Candy Esther Martinez is an Assistant Professor of Latin American and Latinx Studies at Vassar College, joining in 2022. Her work focuses on the emotional injuries, epistemologies, and socio-economic challenges faced by Zapotec and Mixtec communities in relation to migration and gender violence. She teaches courses on Latinx immigrant health, community-centered filmmaking in the Americas, and structural inequalities affecting Indigenous communities.
Education:
- BA in Psychology and Spanish, Amherst College
- MA and PhD in Latin American and Latinx Studies, University of California, Santa Cruz
Research Support: Her research has been supported by the Fulbright García Robles Program, American Philosophical Society, UC Berkeley’s Research Program on Migration and Health, UCSC’s Research Center for the Americas, and the UC Office of the President. She holds grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the UC Office of the President.
