Candido Pirri

Candido Pirri is a Full Professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) at Politecnico di Torino, where he also serves as Vice Rector for Research Model and Infrastructure Development. He is a member of the Interdepartmental Center PolitoBIOMed Lab - Biomedical Engineering Lab and acts as Scientific Advisor for Partnership Agreements with EURIX and INTESA SANPAOLO.

His research interests focus on Energy Transition, Nanomedicine, and Nanotechnology, with specific emphasis on micro and nanodevices for energy and environment, graphene and 2D materials for energy applications, nanomaterials for CO2 trapping and reduction, nanostructures for hydrogen storage, and multifunctional materials for 3D printing. His work aligns with ERC sectors PE3_4 (Electronic properties of materials), PE3_10 (Nanophysics), and PE3_5 (Physical properties of semiconductors), contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals 7 (Affordable and clean energy) and 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on energy storage and conversion technologies, particularly in hydrogen storage, CO2 reduction, and electrochemical systems. His research spans fundamental materials science to applied engineering solutions for energy transition challenges, with significant work on nanomaterials, electrocatalysis, and biotechnological approaches for carbon utilization.

Dr. Pirri has supervised numerous PhD students working on materials, sustainable processes, and energy transition systems. His research portfolio includes dozens of funded projects as Scientific Director, including HYDROLAB (2024-2027), HERO (2023-2026), and CAL.HUB.RIA (2023-2026), with substantial funding from regional, national, and EU sources.

He leads multiple laboratories including the CHILAB Laboratory, Electrical Characterization Laboratory, FESEM Laboratory, and various Nanoscience laboratories focused on biochemical, cell, and chemical applications. His research group works at the intersection of nanotechnology, energy systems, and biomedical applications, developing innovative solutions for sustainable technologies.
