Candice Frances

Candice Frances is a Postdoctoral Researcher and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, Netherlands. She also serves as an External Professor and Cluster Leader at Rosario National University.

Her educational background includes:

• PhD from UPV/EHU (conducted research at BCBL with an FPI grant from the Spanish government)
• Master's in Brain and Cognition from UPF
• BA in Psychology from New College of Florida

Frances's research focuses on language processing in spoken interactions, particularly how we mark important information in conversation and how this affects information processing. Her previous work examined bilingualism and the cognitive effects of using different languages, with specific focus on how foreign language affects learning through emotionality and contextual diversity. She investigates how prosodic focus impacts memory and interpretation of ambiguous sentences, and how contextual diversity influences learning.

Her published work shows consistent interest in language cognition, with publications examining emotional processing in foreign languages and how regional accents affect memory and credibility judgments. These works demonstrate her interdisciplinary approach bridging psycholinguistics, cognitive psychology, and sociolinguistics.

Frances is deeply committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in science:
