Campbell Grey is an Associate Professor of Classical Studies at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on the social dynamics of disasters, rural communities, and human-environment interactions in the late Roman and early medieval world (3rd–7th centuries CE).
- Co-Director of the Roman Peasant Project (with Kim Bowes), a multidisciplinary study of peasant lifeways in central Tuscany
- Current research explores vulnerability, resilience, and recovery in ancient communities facing natural hazards, military incursions, famines, or disease
- Integrates social history with environmental studies and landscape archaeology
