Dr. Camilo Ardila Arevalo is an Associate Lecturer at the School of International Relations at the University of St Andrews. His research focuses on decolonial studies, political reconciliation, and democratic theories. He holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh (2018–2024), titled Pluriversal Reconciliation: Democratic Theories, Political Violence and Onto-Epistemic Dialogue. Previously, he taught at the University of Edinburgh, University of Dundee, and Colombian institutions like Universidad Santo Tomás and Universidad Libre. He also served as a Visiting Researcher at Universidad Javeriana in Colombia. His expertise includes human rights, transitional justice, and critical international political theory.
Camilo teaches modules such as Human Rights in Theory and Practice and Peacebuilding and Post-Conflict Transition in Latin America. His research explores themes like post-war justice, epistemic democracy, and ontological dialogue in conflict contexts. He contributes to centers like the Centre for the Critical Reimagining of Human Rights and Centre for Global Law and Governance. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and justice.
