Camila Maroja is an Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at Brandeis University and core faculty in the Latin American, Caribbean and Latinx Studies Program. Her scholarship focuses on modern and contemporary art in Southern contexts, emphasizing exhibition histories, experimental art practices since the 1960s, and the geopolitical circulation of artistic objects and ideas.

Maroja’s research interrogates the construction of Latin American art canons through localized perspectives, challenging cross-cultural interpretations and institutional frameworks. She examines collaborations between artists and indigenous communities, such as Ernesto Neto’s work with the Huni Kuin at the 2017 Venice Biennial.
Her projects have been supported by prestigious fellowships including the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Getty Research Foundation, and the Cogut Center at Brown University. Maroja integrates campus collections and museum resources into her teaching, offering surveys and seminars on modern/contemporary Latin American art and museum studies.
