Callum Kellie is a Lecturer in Broadcast Journalism at Gray's School of Art, Robert Gordon University. With a background in the North Sea oil industry, he brings unique industry experience to his academic role, bridging practical knowledge with creative expression and research.
His educational qualifications include MA, BA Hons, FHEA, and ILM3. His academic journey reflects a transition from industry practice to creative and scholarly work, creating a distinctive interdisciplinary perspective.
Callum's research focuses on the intersection of energy systems and society. His work explores climate change and energy transition, land use and its relationship to national identity, and the social impact of the North Sea Oil & Gas industry on workers and their families. Through his artistic practice as a filmmaker, he investigates the social implications of energy infrastructure, particularly examining the North Sea oil industry and renewable energy development in Scotland.
Callum has received recognition for his creative work, including winning Best Documentary at the Rayany Creators Film Festival (with a nomination for Best Cinematography) and an Honourable Mention at the UK Seasonal Short Film Festival. His recent projects include 'Energy in Motion: Climate Emotion, Energy Futures' (2025), the 'Discourse' Interdisciplinary Research Commission (2024), and presentations at the Petrocultures conferences.
