Caitlin Akers is a Lecturer in the Manchester School of Art at Manchester Metropolitan University, teaching on the UAL Art Foundation course. She holds a BA (Hons) in Photography (2010) and a Master’s in Visual Arts: Book Arts from Camberwell College of Arts (2018), alongside a PGCert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (2018). Her practice focuses on artist books, printmaking, and installation, emphasizing community engagement and domestic histories.
Key research projects include the 2023 Od Arts Festival commission Twisting Heads—a site-specific artist book exploring Victorian architecture—and the 2022 B.Side Festival’s Portland Print Workshop, which addressed land rights and environmental issues. She has received awards such as the Academic Fellowship for a Venice residency (2017) and ECF funding for a Netherlands printmaking exchange (2018).
Caitlin is a studio holder at The Birley Artist Studios and co-founder of Edition Residencies, an international artist collective. Her work often involves participatory workshops, fostering communal creativity through handmade processes.
