CJ Scruton is an Assistant Professor at MIAD (Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design) with expertise in literature, cultural theory, and ecohorror. Their work explores ghost stories as frameworks for analyzing social norms, fears, and ecological systems, particularly through intersections with environmental studies and queer/Native narratives.

Research Focus: CJ Scruton's scholarship examines ghost stories through broad definitions of "spirit," emphasizing their role in representing both societal anxieties and natural ecosystems. Their creative work has appeared in journals like Shenandoah, The Journal, and Juked, while their academic writing is featured in New Directions in Ecohorror and the EcoGothic and the Nathaniel Hawthorne Review, where they guest edited a 2023 special issue on environmental themes.
Teaching: Courses include horror theory, LGBTQ+ studies, Native studies, and FYE (First Year Experience) writing and humanities at MIAD.
