Dr. C.J. Piek is an Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. She is a European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine (EBVS®) and obtained her PhD in 2011 on "Prognosis in canine idiopathic immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia." Her academic career spans over two decades, with appointments in clinical teaching and research.

Research Interests: Dr. Piek's work focuses on immune-mediated diseases and vector-borne infections in companion animals, particularly canine leishmaniasis, hemolytic anemia, and coagulation disorders. She leads research projects on diagnostic protocols for imported infectious diseases and contributes to understanding hemostatic abnormalities in dogs.
Publications: Her recent studies (2018-2024) analyze Leishmaniasis treatment outcomes, fibrinolysis in effusions, and diagnostic methodologies for immune-mediated conditions. These publications reflect her expertise in canine hematology, parasitology, and clinical epidemiology.
Teaching and Leadership: She heads the Hematology/Immunology and Vector-Borne Diseases division and oversees clinical hematology courses in bachelor's and master's curricula. Dr. Piek mentors BKO candidates and co-supervises PhD students, emphasizing education and research leadership.
