C. Ricardo Constante-Amores

C. Ricardo Constante-Amores is an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), affiliated with the Mechanical Science & Engineering Department within The Grainger College of Engineering. His research focuses on fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, and turbulence, with an emphasis on developing data-driven models for complex fluid dynamics. He holds a PhD and MSc from Imperial College London and a BS from Complutense University of Madrid.

Education: PhD & DIC in Chemical Engineering (Imperial College London, 2021), MSc & DIC in Chemical Engineering (Imperial College London, 2016), BS in Chemical Engineering (Complutense University of Madrid, 2014).

His research interests include simulating multiphase flows, fluid-structure interaction, and leveraging machine learning techniques like Koopman operators and neural ODEs for reduced-order modeling. Notable achievements include the 2024 Emerging Scholar Honorable Mention from the Journal of Fluid Mechanics and the 2021 ERCOFTAC da Vinci Medal.

Recent work includes data-driven models for elastoinertial turbulence and predicting extreme events in turbulent shear flows. He has also contributed to studies on droplet impact dynamics involving surfactants. Current roles include teaching TAM 335 (Introductory Fluid Mechanics) and leading interdisciplinary collaborations in fluid dynamics.
