Bécquer Seguín is an Assistant Professor of Iberian Studies at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and Senior Editor of the MLN Hispanic Issue. He holds affiliations with the Center for Advanced Media Studies, Program in Latin American Studies, and the Latin America in a Globalizing World initiative. His research bridges modern Spanish literature with political theory and cultural sociology, examining the role of novelists in Spain's post-dictatorship public sphere.
- Education: PhD in Modern Languages and Literatures from Cornell University (2016)
Current projects include The Op-Ed Novel: Spain and the Politics of Literary Persuasion (Harvard UP, under contract), exploring how Spanish novelists shape public discourse, and co-edited volumes on political romanticism and Spain's financial crisis legacy. His work appears in journals like boundary 2 and Hispanic Review.
He contributes op-eds to The Nation, Slate, and Public Books, and provides media commentary for CNBC, WNYC, and other outlets. His research integrates literary analysis with sociopolitical critique, emphasizing Spain's cultural and intellectual history.
